This has got to be one of my favourite projects! Mission Together is Missio for children and they provide a lot of resources and worksheets to Catholic Primary schools. This project took 12 months in total. It started with a brand and competitor audit, which informed our workshop day. Here we made some big decisions about the future of the brand and how we could position it as closer to Missio.

After the workshop Stephen Davies, Director of Mission, Missio England and Wales, said: I just wanted to say thank you for the way you guided us through – and challenged us in – yesterday’s meeting. I think it was a really helpful, productive, if occasionally uncomfortable discussion, and really helps move things forward.

We then spoke to several Catholic Primary school teachers to understand how Mission Togethers current branding was perceived. This all helped to create the strategy we wrote to clarify the next steps we believed would take them where they want the brand to go.

We worked with them to create new messaging and updated their logo and brand look and feel to keep it’s unique identity while bringing it closer to the Missio brand. I worked with the wonderful Emily again on the overall brand look and feel which I then translated onto all of their materials.

The Mission Together team need a lot of visuals for their pupil worksheets so I worked out how to create illustrations of children in parts so they can build their own mini people in canva! They have different hairstyles to choose from, can change all the skin tones, pick the most appropriate facial expression, arm position and legs plus add on glasses, a hearing aid and ear defenders which the pupils have loved to see as they look ‘Just like me!’.

Stephen said:
“We first worked with Jo to update the look and feel of Missio several years ago. Her style and professionalism meant that it was an easy choice to work with her again to refresh the ‘Mission Together’ brand (the part of Missio specifically for children), whilst trying to more closely identify it with the overarching Missio brand.

Jo and her colleagues helped us to do this over time, without rushing in with all the answers. She listened and engaged with our small team, interviewed teachers, and brought together the various ideas with sensitivity and creativity, bringing all of the elements up-to-date, without losing its identity.

What has been particularly great, and unexpected at the beginning, is how Jo has ensured the various design elements can work within Canva. It means that we can make use of them across a whole range of resources for children, such as presentations, activity sheets, and guides for teachers. Jo also gave us the ability in Canva to adapt our stylised illustrations of ‘Mission Together children’ with bespoke features. This included adding things such as glasses and ear-defenders, along with the ability to change the colour of their clothing. All of this has helped us to be as inclusive as possible, enabling our creativity to flourish with endless variety.”
